Night and day

The default look is the arcane . A parchment day theme follows the operating system's light or dark setting by default and can be pinned either way from Account settings. The desktop app's window frame and the Android app's own bars follow the same choice.

Interface scale

Also in Account settings: one slider that scales the whole interface. Useful on a television at an in-person table, or on a small laptop.

Motion and effects

  • is read from the operating system. With it on, the springs, the sliding highlight, the dust and the topographic background all stand still, and painted effects are skipped.
  • Low effects is the app's own switch, in Account settings: it rests the loops and skips the painted effect sheets while keeping simple motion. Android turns it on by itself on phones with less than 4 GB of memory.
  • in turns the terrain painting off and keeps the drawn board, which is lighter on an old phone.
  • 3D dice in the dice menu turns the tumbling dice off.

Device settings: audio and dice

One panel holds everything that belongs to the device you are on rather than your account. It opens from the , from the table, and from in the app's Settings, and every change applies live.

The app's own Settings screen

Open Settings from the title screen, or App settings in a world's account menu. Four groups have a jump row at the top:

  • Playing on this device. , Steam Deck and controllers where supported, and the title screen's offline-host switch.
  • Your world on this computer/device. Story AI, your account, sharing, and sound (what reads the story aloud, with a sample to hear, and the download), Story memory on desktop, and for exporting or importing the whole .
  • Accounts and connections. Saved sign-ins and visiting hosts. Each server still keeps your account settings on that server.
  • Help and maintenance. User guide, Replay tour, This app (version, updates and the desktop's Beta updates switch), Troubleshooting where available, and links.

On the desktop, every text field takes the usual cut, copy and paste keys (Cmd on a Mac) and offers Cut, Copy and Paste on a right-click.

Inside a world, App settings opens over the table so a call keeps running. Escape returns from the ; on a world's page it closes that page's dialogs. Android Back and a controller's B perform the corresponding back action.

Steam Deck and controllers

The Linux app recognises a Steam Deck, inside a too. In Game Mode it starts full screen and in Desktop Mode maximised, with a title screen that fits 1280 by 800 and Steam-style button hints along the foot. Settings has Auto, On and Off, and the launch options --steam-deck and --no-steam-deck decide for one shortcut. Controllers work on every screen with the standard mapping (Steam Input, Xbox, PlayStation): the D-pad or left stick moves a gold highlight, A presses and opens Steam's keyboard on a text box, B backs out, X jumps to the message box at the table, L1 holds voice chat's , R1 holds the talk-to-the-DM button, and the triggers and right stick scroll.
