First launch on Android

The title screen on a phone, Begin your world, naming your adventurer, the two Story AI doors Android offers, Voices and music, the guided tour, the drawer, and the app's Settings screen.

Android app

The Android app opens on its title screen, never a sign-in form. You can create a world of your own on the phone, join a friend's, or both.

Begin your world

The title reads Begin your world: "No server needed. Your world lives on this device, and friends can join from anywhere once you invite them." Start playing creates it. The main menu's Join with a code opens the panel, with Scan a QR code for the camera. If you only ever join other people's tables, use that and skip the rest of this page.

Name your adventurer

The name friends see at the table: letters, digits, underscore and dash, up to 24 characters. The world is created in the app's private storage, you are its owner, and no password is asked for. A short follows: this name, then who tells the story, then Voices and music.

Who tells the story?

Android offers two doors:

  • No AI. No AI storyteller. You or a friend runs the table.
  • Your OpenAI . Storytelling, pictures and optional billed to your key for campaigns on this phone. Choose from the models your key lists.

A local model and an need a computer, so those doors are desktop only. The Story AI button on the home screen reopens the screen.

Voices and music comes last: what reads the story aloud (OpenAI's voices on a saved key, a on a computer on your network, or on screen only, with a sample) and the download. Both stay in Settings, Narration and sound. See Story AI on Android.

The home

The app's home is also your world's home. An empty world offers Forge a new world, which opens the campaign creator, and closing the creator without a campaign comes back here. The grouped main menu gains New campaign, Characters, , and Story AI. is offered only where the host has an AI storyteller; Opens on names the chosen host, with Change to switch it; once you have played, the last table fills the screen under "Continue your tale" with Enter the world, and your other tables sit below as save slots with Duplicate and Delete. Inside a world the game's pages own the screen, and the account menu's App home, App settings and App guide lead back to the app.

The guided tour

A spotlight walks the title screen once. Replay it from Settings, Help, Replay tour. The table and the have their own tours the first time you see them.

The drawer and Settings

The drawer lists saved hosts and campaigns, with a hide-offline switch. Settings has four groups: Playing on this device, Your world on this device, Accounts and connections and Help and maintenance. Use them for , Story AI, online or Wi-Fi sharing, and sound, , visiting hosts, tours and the app version. Android updates arrive through Google Play or by installing a newer from the same source. See Themes, effects and device settings.

Battery and background

Playing alone or joining a friend's table costs no more than any chat app. Hosting a shared world keeps the phone's server awake behind a notification; see Host a world on your phone.
